Well, somehow the weekend has got away from me yet again. Of course this could be because I worked on Saturday, so the weekend was Sunday and then back to work on Monday once more. Time seems to keep skipping forward on me without my much noticing it happen. It's remarkable how a whole month of 2007 has passed already and I've barely blinked.
So here's the weekend update, at least as of 12:30 a.m. on Monday that is :-p Saturday was the annual home show, an extravaganza of booths detailing the many things you can get for your home. You might be wondering what this has to do with Bookstore Fairying, but believe it or not we had been invited to display books about home improvement, with everything from do-it-yourself bathrooms to fung shuing your clutter.
The Overlord stopped by Bookworm Central and requested I go over to see Fearless Leader at the home show, and bring over kids books to provide relief for the kids dragged there by interested parents. Ironically enough we ended up selling way more Avatar books and manga than we did Traditional Building Guides.
After I arrived Fearless Leader left to take her son Gamerboy, who had been diligently racking up the levels under the Bookworm Central table, to piano lessons. A, who works behind the scenes with Overlord, came back with her daughter Kitty, 14 months old and revved up for more exploring than the home show had to offer. So, fairly soon I was left alone with a lovely mystery brought by Fearless Leader. Indeed the mystery's one of the highlights of my day: "Aunt Dimity's Death" - a lovely British Cuppa sort of mystery full of comfort and recipes. It's great, though I am now hooked on a new series which is bad for my bank account.
I must say the day went more quickly than I would have imagined, probably because the quiet periods were broken up by periods of excitment from a lady tripping and splashing the whole display with coffee, necessitating an urgent phone call to the ReRe to request a hurried paper towel delivery. Also, Krafty arrived to share a sushi boat lunch (yuuuuummm) while StitcherAngel covered the booth for a while.
Eventually the whole thing packed down into several bag-fulls of books and escorted them back to the store, and then rounded out the evening with general gigginess surrounding the upcoming trip for StitcherAngel and Batboy to the New York comic convention at the end of the month. Going to be present at such an event will be such luminaries the creater of ZIM and Simon from Firefly, and more important to Jersey girl StitcherAngel, Kevin Smith, king of Jersey comedy.
As for Sunday, it can best be described in two words: Anime Day :) (with Rindeseyeu, Krafty, StitcherAngel and SfS)
Included in the show were fighters for the Holy Grail and bumbling pirates, and some really out there double entendres. Gotta love it. What a way to end a week.
